Designed in response to a brief that focused on creating a series of infographics for Ocean Change
Inspired by the Pantone colour of the year “Living Coral”, this series of infographics aims to bring awareness to the issue of coral reef bleaching. Having grown up in Australia, the Great Barrier Reef is an attraction that has always been a point of pride and I am surprised by the lack of attention that it gets within the media. The issue of climate change is a wicked issue that gets a lot of attention but what many people don't realise is that most of the extra heat that is created gets absorbed by the ocean. Subsequently what we see on the surface is only.a fraction of the damage, compared to the changes occurring below.
Designed to be viewed by the general public, this series uses bright colours and varying coral textures to help re-iterate the gradual loss of one of the most incredible natural phenomenons in the world. I hope that these graphics not only cause alarm but inspire individuals to get involved and learn more about how they can help protect the reefs.
The work was an exploration of typography and visual communication through data visualisation techniques.
